An expansion brace/RME Rapid Maxillary Expansion is designed to widen the upper jaw to prepare the mouth for the erupting adult teeth and helping to create space so these teeth can be accommodated. It can also correct crossbites.
When you attend for a consultation you will complete a medical history form and also our smile evaluation form, when this is complete we will take some photographs of your teeth, then, Dr O’Leary will perform a complete examination of your smile and bite alignment.
She will then sit down and go through her findings with you and she will answer any questions you may have while discussing your treatment options with you.

The type of discomfort you experience depends on the type of brace you have fitted. Fitting the brace itself does not hurt but as your teeth move it is usual to experience tenderness for the first 3-5 days.
Yes, wearing retainers after your braces have been removed is an essential part of your treatment. To keep your smile and your teeth in position after your braces are removed you will need to wear your retainers as specified by Dr O’Leary.
